The creation of "Faturan" is believed to have come from the chemist of the same name in the 18th-19th century, who melted the pieces of amber that he had left over and mixed them with other natural resins, such as mastic, frankincense, rosin, etc.

The National Historical Museum of Athens has an exhibit of Faturan komboloi dating from 1821. Genuine Faturan beads were mainly in shades of red or yellow. The last genuine Faturan beads were made in the 1940s and production ended mainly due to World War II, when the supply of raw materials became very scarce.
